Here at Benfield, Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) has been on our curriculum for over 20 years! MFL is a compulsory subject for all children at Key Stage 2. Therefore, French will be taught every week to all classes in Years 3 to 6. We will be using a wide selection of resources, including picture books and songs, as well as scheme of works from both “ilanguages” (a progressive scheme covering all the government requirements) and “lightbulb languages” to support the teaching and learning.

Amongst the areas covered are greetings, numbers, colours, animals, parts of the body, weather and ordering food and drink.

Benfield is also developing links with a primary school in Paris in order to develop intercultural understanding, and to help give the language learning a purpose.

Below is a very useful website which the children can use at home to support their learning:

www.duolingo.com (also available as a great app)

Year 2 will also be learning some simple Spanish as part of one of their topics.

Merci!

Mr. Edwards
