Jewellery Children should not wear any jewellery to school other than watches and ear sleepers or studs. We cannot accept responsibility for accidents or loss.
PE Clothing
The children have PE twice a week, so it is essential for reasons of safety and hygiene that
they have suitable clothing at school to change into for these lessons. This should consist of:
Indoor PE Kit
- Red, Blue or White t-shirt
- Gym shorts (i.e. no belts, buckles or zips)
- Plain leotard if preferred for apparatus work
Outdoor PE Kit
- Trainers (socks, if heading to the field in the summer term)
- Plain t-shirt and gym shorts or tracksuit bottoms
Both kits should be clearly marked with child’s name, and kept in a named bag.
NO JEWELLERY to be worn for PE lessons (this includes earrings or studs). Long hair must be tied back. These are important safety measures which we are required to enforce.
If studs cannot be removed it is essential they are covered with micropore tape.
Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly marked with name and class to ensure safe return in the event of loss.
School Uniform
The school has a simple and practical uniform which all children are strongly encouraged to wear. This helps to ensure that the children are dressed in a safe, suitable and smart way. It helps to create a sense of equality between the pupils themselves as well as identifying them as Downs Junior School pupils to the outside world. A simple uniform supports the school in remaining special and helps everyone concentrate on the main business of teaching and learning.
We hope all parents will support the school and send children in school uniform.
Guidelines
- Navy or Red Sweatshirt
- Navy, Red or white polo/t-shirt or white shirt/blouse
- Navy, black, grey trousers/skirts/shorts (NOT P.E. style)
- Blue or red gingham style dress
We expect pupils to come to school dressed in a suitable manner. Dirty or untidy clothes, or clothes with slogans and jeans are NOT acceptable.
There is no particular requirement for the style of any of these items and they may be purchased from any store. However, sweatshirts/polo shirts and fleeces with the school logo are available from Sussex Uniforms (formerly Trutex) based at 40 Blatchington Road Hove BN3 3YH – 01273739676. Footwear should be flat and non slip, and sturdy. We strongly disagree with the wearing of fashion shoes such as those with built up heels or of the backless variety. Separate footwear is required for PE and Games.
