January 2021 - We are open for the children of critical workers, vulnerable pupils and Nursery provision.

Welcome to St Mary Magdalen's CP Primary and Nursery School

Together in God's love we stand; learning and friendship hand in hand

On behalf of the children, staff and governors, I offer you a warm welcome to St Mary Magdalen’s Catholic Primary School. I hope you find our website clear and informative as it is designed to give you a flavour of the vibrant life at our school, the work of our pupils and the quality of education we deliver!

As a Catholic school, we provide all of our children with the opportunity to grow as young people and encourage and support them in developing a closer relationship with God. Our school motto ‘Together in God’s love we stand; learning and friendship hand in hand’ was written by our school community and inspiration for this was drawn from our school ethos, where we believe that ‘each person is a unique creation of God and we therefore respect and care for their individual needs.’

If you require any further information or you would like your child to join our school, please make an appointment to come and see our school in action. I look forward to meeting you.

Mrs Andie Wilson

    Learning Programme, Nessy
Dear Parents and Carers, We have subscribed to an online learning program called NESSY. NESSY is designed to help pupils of all abilities to learn to read, write, spell and type. It especially helps children who learn differently, have English as an additional language (EAL), are being home-schooled or have dyslexic tendencies. Some of your children have already used NESSY at school. You may have received an email from NESSY asking for your permission. This is not necessary to enable your child /children to start playing but it is easy to set this up by following the instructions in their email. Over the next week we will be sending you your child's log in details and instructions. If you have any questions, please contact the school office. Many thanks

    IMPORTANT: School reopening update
Dear Parents & Carers, Apologies for interrupting your weekend. I have just been informed by Brighton & Hove City Council that children will not be returning to primary schools in Brighton & Hove next week. Children will not return on Tuesday 5th January as previously planned. The Council have informed me that, '… the infection rate for COVID-19 in the city has significantly increased by more than 500% since we came out of lockdown at the start of December. It is currently 388 per 100,000 and early indications are that this sharp increase is continuing, we will reach rates of approximately 500 per 100,000 in the next few days. This rapid increase is mirrored in the rates in our children and young people.' The data shared is extremely concerning and we have been advised to move to remote learning and to only allow the children of critical workers and vulnerable children in school until further notice. A full update regarding arrangements for next week will be sent to you on Monday. Monday remains an INSET day. I am sorry for this short notice but this is a very fast-moving situation. The priority has to be the safety of our children, school staff and the wider community. Thank you for your ongoing support.
