Our Curriculum
At St Mary Magdalen, we strive to be the best we can be through friendship and teamwork: Our school motto is ‘Together in God’s love we stand learning and friendship hand in hand'. Therefore, our curriculum is carefully designed with this vision in mind. In the Early Years classes, children work towards the Early Learning Goals. Throughout Key Stages One and Two, they are taught within the framework of the National Curriculum. Religious education is taught to all pupils using the Come and See Catholic Religious Education Curriculum.
Our curriculum promotes independence, self-belief and high aspirations, provides opportunities to develop the skills needed to excel as life-long learners, ensures children understand how to protect the safety of themselves, others and the environment and encourages kindness, respect and collaboration. Our curriculum is inclusive and every effort is made to ensure that it is accessible to all pupils.
Our curriculum is designed with the following aims:
- to provide a broad and inclusive curriculum that meets the needs of all pupils at St Mary Magdalen
- to promote positive attitudes towards learning and school life in general
- to enable all pupils to achieve their full potential, both academically and personally and to celebrate this within the community.
- to promote wellbeing to ensure that all our children realise and feel that they are a valued member of our school and their wider community.
In order to achieve these aims, we have identified four “Curriculum Drivers” that are reflected through all topics and themes. Teachers’ planning ensures that these drivers run coherently across the school and through every subject.
