I am passionate about equity of education for all youngsters, offering them the optimum life chances; I have a thirty year history of involvement in education provision in Brighton & Hove and East Sussex, as a policy maker. I have served as Chair of governors in primary, secondary, and special schools and a FE College. I am the safeguarding lead Trustee at Roedean School.

I sit on the Brighton & Hove Learning Partnership Strategic Board as the Primary Governor Representative which has been set up to raise standards and life chances for all learners in the City. I am designated by the National College/DfE as a National Leader for Governance (NLG) and I am the Regional NLG Advocate; as such I use my skills to support Chairs of Governors and develop capacity within governing bodies. I serve as a Magistrate on Sussex Central Bench.

I am founder Trustee of a Sussex based charity – Tony Barnard Foundation (TBF) which seeks to enhance the quality of life for children and adults with Learning Difficulties and where appropriate, their carers.

I am a director of a Leadership training company.

I enjoy life to the full, seize opportunities to share my skills and wish to encourage others to have opportunities to extend themselves and their quality of life.

I have been involved in education for over 30 years covering the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. My work has ranged from teaching mathematics and computing to being the director for curriculum and quality at a large further education college. I was an Ofsted inspector in further education and was also employed as a consultant for the National College for Teaching and Leadership.

I have considerable HR experience which encompassed performance management, recruitment, selection, equal opportunities and capability issues. Having originally trained as a statistician I like working with data to bring about school improvement. Currently I am vice chair of governors and I lead the governor data group, which uses data to scrutinise pupil progress. I also chair the Partnership Committee covering Benfield and Hangleton primary schools.

I am committed to the idea of lifelong learning including keeping up to date with current education policy. I am now retired from full time work but enjoy using my skills as a co-opted governor.
